Dundas Stuns Hornets

DeMelo covers the puck on top of his net

For the first time since February 24, 2006, the Dundas Real McCoys hosted the Cambridge Hornets at the J.L. Grightmire Arena. Unlike the last time the Hornets visited the Valley Town, the McCoys skated away with the victory on Friday night by a score of 3-1.

The contest was a closely checked game with neither side giving an inch. Dundas found themselves down by a goal with just under six minutes remaining in the opening frame. However, Igor Gongalsky tied the game at one just prior to the end of the opening period.

With no scoring in the second period, the game looked to be decided in the final 20 minutes.

Trevor Atkinson would score 2:11 into the third, giving the McCoys their first lead of the game and was the eventual game winner. Nathan Longpre would go on to add an empty netter to put the game away.

Ryan DeMelo had a relatively quiet night in net for the hometown McCoys, allowing just one puck past him on the 15 shots he faced.

During the first intermission, the McCoys welcomed back to the ice a number of alumni as the team continues to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

Dundas is on the road to conclude the weekend, facing the St. Catharines Saints at the Merritton Centennial Arena on Saturday night starting at 7:30pm. The next home action is Friday November 21st when the Saints make their first visit to the J.L. Grightmire Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
