McCoys Comeback Falls Short

After a pair of road games, the Dundas Real McCoys opening the home portion of their schedule on Friday night, starting the season long celebrations of their 25th anniversary in front of over 800 fans.

Prior to puck dropping on the home opening game against the Wentworth Gryphins, the McCoys announced their inaugural Hall of fame class that included five men who have been with the organization from the very start, Dave Biehler, Bob Pearson, Jamie “Tuna” Lewis, Roger Oakes and Ron Moore.

It would be the Gryphins who scored first at 11:38 of the period, but Holden Doggett responded a couple of minutes later to even the score at one. It would stay that way the rest of the first period.

The McCoys would fall behind in the second, giving up four straight goals before Paul Cianfrini notched his first of the season with 1:43 left in the middle stanza. However, Wentworth would get that goal back seconds later.

Dundas mounted a comeback with Slater Doggett scoring a pair of goals almost six minutes apart before Jess Hackett scored his third of the season to get the McCoys within a goal with 4:25 left in regulation. But the Gryphins would seal the victory with an empty net goal at 19:47.

Mike Mole was in the net for Dundas, facing 34 shots and stopping 28 of them.

The McCoys will be back in action on Friday November 14th at the J.L. Grightmire Arena when they host the Cambridge Hornets on Alumni Night. Several players of the past will be in attendance for the game.
