Smith's Hat Trick Not Enough Against Hornets
Aaron Smith would score a hat trick and assist on another McCoys goal in Friday night's 7-6 road loss to the Cambridge Hornets. The contest marked the first meeting for the two rival organizations in 19 years and eight months.
Dundas jumped out to a 1-0 lead 4:39 into the game on Noah Czyzewski's goal, before the teams started to trade goals. Jess Hackett picked up the McCoys second goal of the frame, this one on the power play. However, the visitors would head to the dressing room down by one.
Cambridge rattled off two goals to extend their lead early in the second period before Smith potted his first two goals of the contest bringing Dundas within a goal once again.
Hackett and Smith would each score early in the final period before the Hornets scored on the man-advantage to even the score with 10:15 left in regulation. Cambridge would score the game winner six minutes later to defeat the McCoys.
Ryan DeMelo took the loss, allowing seven goals on 51 shots.
The McCoys will open up the home portion of their schedule on Friday November 7th at the J.L. Grightmire Arena against the Wentworth Gryphins. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
