Third Period Heart Shows McCoys Aren't Done Yet

The Dundas Real McCoys headed to Stoney Creek Arena on Saturday evening for Game Two of their best-of-five semi-final series — and for the second straight night, they came out flying.
Brad Bonello got the party started at 5:10 of the first period, and Simon Mangos followed at 11:43 to put the McCoys up 2-0. The fast start looked familiar, but the Tigers had other ideas. Stoney Creek battled back with two late goals to level the score at two heading into the first intermission.
The second period proved costly. The Tigers seized control, potting three goals to stretch their lead to 5-2. Dundas found themselves chasing the game.
They answered the call in the third. Tim Carr and Mackenzie Wood scored early in the period to pull the McCoys within one, and suddenly the momentum had shifted. But Stoney Creek steadied themselves, held the lead, and sealed the win with an empty-netter to secure the 6-4 victory.
Cam Fergus was a catalyst throughout, collecting three assists, while Wood and Bonello each finished with a goal and an assist. In net, Ryan DeMelo turned aside 34 of 39 shots.
The McCoys now face a must-win situation as the series shifts back home. Dundas hosts Stoney Creek for Game Three on Friday, March 13th at the J.L. Grightmire Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. Come out and pack the building — the McCoys will need every voice in the crowd.
