Dundas traveled to Wentworth on Thursday night with playoff clinching on their minds, but the Gryphins had other ideas. In what was the McCoys' final road game of the 2025-26 ACHL season, Wentworth overpowered Dundas from start to finish, handing them a convincing 6-1 defeat and sending their Robertson Cup hopes into a nerve-wracking waiting game.

The McCoys showed some early resilience, keeping the Gryphins off the board for much of the first period. But Wentworth broke through late in the frame, erupting for two goals in a frantic 48-second span that swung the momentum decisively in their favor and set the tone for the rest of the night.

A 3-0 deficit heading into the second period left Dundas with a mountain to climb. Holden Doggett provided a small but spirited consolation, burying his eighth goal of the season at 9:25 of the middle stanza to at least deny the Gryphins a shutout. But that would be as close as the McCoys would get. Wentworth tacked on three more in the third to put the game firmly out of reach.

Ryan DeMelo was kept busy all night, turning aside 44 shots in a valiant but losing effort, unable to keep his team within striking distance against a relentless Wentworth attack.

Now the McCoys wait. Dundas' next shot at clinching a playoff berth comes Saturday night — not on the ice, but from the stands. If the Stoney Creek Tigers can knock off the St. Catharines Saints in the Garden City, the McCoys punch their ticket to the Robertson Cup postseason without even lacing up their skates.

If Saturday doesn't go their way, Dundas will take matters into their own hands one final time. The McCoys close out their regular season at home on Friday, February 27th against the Saints on First Responders Night, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 pm. A win that night would punch their ticket to the dance.
