Wood Scores Twice In Loss

Hackett tries to score on the Tigers for Dundas

The Dundas Real McCoys dropped their fourth consecutive game Friday night, falling 8-3 to the visiting Stoney Creek Tigers at J.L. Grightmire Arena in Allan Cup Hockey League action.

Mackenzie Wood provided the offensive spark for Dundas with a pair of goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome a dominant Tigers squad that seized control in the middle frame.

For the second straight night, the McCoys surrendered the opening goal before battling back. Nathan Longpre converted on the power play at 11:22 of the first period to knot the score at one. However, Stoney Creek answered just over a minute later to carry a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.

The second period proved costly for Dundas as the Tigers broke the game open with four unanswered goals, building a commanding 6-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Wood refused to quit in the third period, lighting the lamp twice to bring his season total to 14 goals. The Tigers, however, matched Dundas' output with two goals of their own to seal the victory.

Ryan DeMelo stood tall in his second consecutive start, turning aside 28 shots despite the lopsided score.

The night featured a milestone for the hometown faithful as captain Simon Mangos suited up for his 177th game with the franchise, tying him with Tom Brown (2004-12) for the most games played by a defenseman in McCoys history.

Dundas will look to snap their losing streak next Friday night when they welcome long-time rivals, the Cambridge Hornets, to J.L. Grightmire Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
